If you’re looking for another reason to remember that stars are, in fact, just like us, David Beckham’s latest Instagram reel is sure to scratch the itch. The former footballer took to social media this week to share a mini tour of his garden, and it might just remind fellow green-thumbed gardeners of their own digs.
Beckham’s country garden has quite the classic look—it’s penned in with a white picket fence and features neat rows of fruits and veggies. And while Posh and Becks obviously have plenty of real estate to make the garden as large as they’d like, Beckham has kept the garden a pretty manageable size. The area features a number of plum trees plus several narrow, wood-trimmed beds for planting. The garden also has a pretty glass greenhouse along the fence, though Beckham didn’t reveal what goodies he’s growing inside of it.
How to Start a Vegetable Garden
While the chickens were snacking on feed during Beckham’s tour, our mouths were watering at all the potential produce. Beckham’s garden is chock-full of scallions, plum trees, kale, green cabbage, red cabbage, potatoes and berries. Potatoes appear to be a favorite for Beckham since they take up the most amount of real estate in the garden. Beckham shared that he was getting ready to put some of those spuds to use once he finished recording.
“Today, I’m actually going to make some crisps,” Beckham says in the video. “I’m a savory person, not sweet.” (Side note: Making potato chips at home isn’t as scary as you might think—our methods forthe microwaveandair fryerkeep things simple.)

But while the potatoes may be a favorite in the Beckham household, the star of the garden is the kale. “The kale is doing very well,” Beckham notes as he shows off a row of colorful, leafy kale that looks just about ready for harvest. Like the potatoes, that kale could be usedto make a quick batch of chips, but it could also be saved for a rainy day. The perk of planting lots of kale is thatit stores well in the fridge or freezer—so you can harvest a bunch, clean and cut it, then freeze it to usein winter soupsora breakfast frittata.
5 Worst Plants for Your First Garden
Though Beckham’s garden is a pretty practical size for now, it seems like an expansion is coming soon. Beyond the white picket fence, Beckham says he’s trying to grow a few olive trees and even some sage. (If you want to start a garden in a small space, planting some potted herbsis a great way to go.)
But you don’t need to have the fanciest equipment or tons of space to get started on your own garden. Fromrecycling old containerstofertilizing with food scraps, there are lots of ways to save money while still building a beautiful backyard garden. As long as you follow the David Beckham philosophy of growing foods you love to eat and finding joy in the process, we’re sure you’ll enjoy your gardening journey.
