The brand released over a dozen cookware pieces with Flay, many of which are made of ceramic nonstick material with an aluminum core, though it also includes some stainless steel and cast iron. I have tried many items from GreenPan before, and they’re all slick and lightweight. They’re also nice because you can use them on any stovetop or pop them in the oven up to 392℉. While I have not tried the pans from this collection specifically, I feel comfortable saying that most of the brand’s nonstick cookware is a good choice if you’re looking for something easy to cook on. Like all nonstick cookware, though, these pans won’t last forever, and you will need to replace them at some point.

That’s one of the reasons why I love cast iron. When cared for, these pieces last seemingly forever. It’s also important for me to try the options in the collection because GreenPan has never released this material before. The brand sent me three of the five cast iron picks to test: the10-inch skillet, the11-inch square grill panand the5.5-quart enameled Dutch oven.

10-Inch Cast Iron Fry Pan

The uncoated cast iron was surprisingly easy to work with, especially since it came pre-seasoned. I think everyone should have a10-inch skilletbecause of its versatility, and this one checks off a lot of boxes. It has tall walls that keep everything tucked in, two pour spouts for draining, a standard handle and a helper handle for easy maneuvering.

The material heated exceptionally well and held it evenly, whether I was using it to sear salmon or brown an easy-baked penne. It has a modern look, with straight edges and an angled handle. The upright handle was definitely an adjustment, but I got used to it after a few uses. I think it’s a wonderful skillet—my only issue is the tapered walls. I prefer a skillet with a wider diameter at the base and straight sides. It gives you more surface area at the bottom and helps bake ingredients more evenly because you don’t have thinner edges from the sloped sides.

11-Inch Cast Iron Square Grill Pan

A standout for me isthe grill pan. I love everything about it. It’s the perfect size and shape,  so easy to work with (nothing stuck at all!) and the ridges left a gorgeous sear on everything I popped in it. I love reaching for this grill pan to char greens, like the romaine pictured, and fruit. It’s also spectacular for proteins, and I know it will come in handy over the winter months when an outdoor grill isn’t an option. In this case, I love the angled handles because it makes the grill pan a little more compact on the stove. The pour spouts are another perk, making for safe draining of fat or any other liquid. The walls are less tapered here, which, coupled with the square shape, means I can easily fit most ingredients in the pan.

My kitchen would never be complete withouta Dutch oven, so this version was another testing priority for me. I wanted to see how the enamel interior performed since the other two items were uncoated. I have tried dozens of different versions of this incredible pot, andthis one stands up against them. It is nice and weighty and has the chic look of more expensive versions, but it runs at just $80 at full price (it’s $64 right now), which I think is incredibly fair.

5.5-Quart Enameled Dutch Oven

I used it to maketomato sauce, and it browned my aromatics nicely, bubbled the tomatoes fast and finished baking them in the oven evenly. I also used this Dutch oven to make my annual batch of apple butter—a true test of its retention and distribution since a lot of sugars were involved, including the fruit and maple syrup.

My apple butter simmered for quite a while, almost an hour, and I noticed more browning than usual at the bottom despite stirring it every 5 to 10 minutes or so. This just told me that the Dutch oven might get a little hotter than some of my other versions, which isn’t a huge deal. It just means I need to adjust my heat moving forward. After that, it was a breeze to work with and even easier to clean. I love the lid, which sometimes makes or breaks a Dutch oven. It fits tightly and is flush with the pot, which is ideal for keeping it compact in the oven. It’s also self-basting, which is a nice perk for slow cooking or baking since it helps redistribute moisture.

The 5.5-quart size easily fits a few 28-ounce cans of tomatoes and over 4 pounds of apples. I am so glad the brand released this size because it is my favorite Dutch oven volume. It’s big enough to handle so many recipes, including homemade bread, but isn’t so big that it’s overwhelming and hard to store.
