April’s food writing journey began with her column, “Counter Intelligence,” in theCharleston Gazette-Mail,and she wrote a cookbook of the same name. She now writes for the cuisine section ofinRegister MagazineandCountry Roads Magazinewith a focus on local producers, nutrition and family cooking. Her work has also been featured online with The Family Dinner Project.

As a Farm to School Volunteer, April is passionate about teaching children where their food comes from and the magic of harvesting and enjoying what they planted. She partners with the Red Stick Farmers Market to teach cooking in schools. April raised her three daughters in the kitchen and is looking ahead to a career in nursing where she plans to incorporate her passion for nutrition.
