The Food and Drug Administration issued a recall on Totally Cool, Inc. ice cream products due to the risk of the products being contaminated withListeria monocytogenes.The contamination was found during an FDA sampling.
Totally Cool, Inc. makes and distributes ice cream products for many brands, including Friendly’s, Hershey’s Ice Cream, Jeni’s and Cumberland Farms (see full list below). The affected products were distributed nationwide. The company has ceased production and distribution of the affected products and continues its investigation into the cause of the contamination.
Listeriais a bacteria that can bepotentially fatal, especially in young children, frail or elderly people and people with weakened immune systems. Signs ofListeriainfection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. No illnesses from these ice cream products have been reported to date.
